We recognize how hard educators work, especially in this tough climate, so our goal when collaborating is to make things run as easily and smoothly as possible for you. With this type of support in mind, we offer several unique educator options for you to consider, whether you’re in a pre-K or a college-level environment:

Everyday Educator’s Discount

First and foremost, we provide educators with an everyday 10% discount, no strings attached. You certainly may use this discount to purchase books for your classroom or library/media center, but please feel free to treat yourself to some items for yourself!. The everyday educator’s discount applies toward any purchase.

Wish Lists

We know that it takes a village, and we can create an online wish list with you to share out with your community of parents, friends, and family so that you can obtain the most beautiful, diverse, and age-appropriate books for your classroom or library/media center. Feel free to send us an already-created list, or ask us for input on new or upcoming titles.  Click here for more information.

Subscriptions

To assist in keeping your space relevant and current, we offer a huge selection of annual genre subscriptions tailored especially for schools. We can work with you at any point to cater to what exactly you need in your classroom or library/media center. Each month you’ll receive a new release in the genre(s) you’ve selected.  Discover additional information here:

 Bulk Purchases

Sometimes you need more. If you’d like to obtain 10+ book copies (same title not required!), we generally can offer a 20% bulk discount, and occasionally a higher discount, depending on the publisher and quantity. We invite you to email us at outreach@skylarkbookshop.com to get started with any large purchase.

Book Fairs

We all know that book fairs are a blast! We can create a book fair that best suits you and your organization, whether it be held at a school, here at the shop, or at a third place altogether! We can also host an online book fair. We’ll curate a special selection of titles based on your ideas and are happy to provide suggestions, too.  As your community is treated to new titles– filled with diverse characters and fabulous stories–it also will be dealing with, well, less throwaway trinkets. Finally, we return to schools a percentage of total book fair sales as credit to use toward purchases in the shop. Remember that a book fair doesn’t only have to be for kids at a school; a book fair for adults is fun, too!

Fundraising - NEW!

We want to host the easiest fundraiser that you can imagine for your organization right here at the shop! Choose a date for one hour beginning at our usual closing time of 6 pm, invite your community to shop, and we’ll return to your organization a percentage of sales from that hour as either 20% in store credit or 10% with a check--your choice!.Get started here.

Author Visits

Skylark works with publishers to bring authors to speak at schools, and handle sales of the author’s book to students. As we have learned from the “Authors in the Schools” program at the Unbound Book festival, there is no better way to get kids excited about books than through a presentation with a live author! Skylark works with schools to prepare students for the visit, and offers students the chance to preorder authors’ books. We can also offer book sales onsite at the event or on our website by request. Students’ books can usually be signed by the author at the event. Email us at mail@skylarkbookshop.com to learn more.

Educator Praise

Skylark Bookshop's staff and services are wonderful assets to me as a school librarian! The staff members are warm and welcoming for sure; but they are also insightful, resolute, flexible, and well-versed. Whether I come by with a long list of titles, text with a vague notion, or call with a wild idea, the staff works diligently with and for me until the task is complete. Our entire school family benefits from their tenacious and generous ways. Skylark's services are also in-tune with our school's needs. Utilizing the monthly subscriptions is an excellent way to provide new books for our collection throughout the year. These are carefully curated to meet the specific needs of our learning family. All ages, abilities, interests, and groups are included so that individual students can find relatable books wherever they look on our shelves! I am so very grateful to and for Skylark!” - Sharon Salmons, Media Specialist, Shepard Boulevard Elementary, Columbia Public Schools

“As a school librarian with a limited budget, I am often trying to find ways to make the most of that budget. I took a chance and asked if Skylark ever worked with schools. From the moment they said yes, I knew it was going to be a good fit. I have enjoyed working with [them] getting quotes, making changes to orders, and picking up the orders. They do a great job communicating with me on supply delays and letting me know when orders have arrived. [They] know that we are a Title 1 district and have invited us to join virtual author visits and donated books for our students. I enjoy supporting a local, independent bookshop, especially one where the people make the effort to know their patrons by name”. - Angela Pointer, Slater School District Librarian

“As program manager for teacher professional development programs at MU, I faced the daunting task of purchasing a very large number of books selected by teacher participants in one of my programs, keeping within the boundaries of the University and the funder. The Skylark staff offered their services, hosted an evening shopping event, placed individual orders for teachers and dispersed the books as they arrived. If a title was not available, they helped with finding and ordering alternatives. I am very grateful that they were able and willing to share their expertise for the benefit of our program, the teachers, and ultimately for the students served. Thank you, Skylark!... Your assistance has been invaluable!” - Sarah Hill, Program Project Manager, University of Missouri

“Skylark Bookshop has become an indispensable partner to our school library program. We appreciate the thoughtfulness and expertise Beth and the rest of the team bring each time we work together. We were introduced to their services for schools through the genre subscription program, which helps us stay up-to-date with the latest releases and find new treasures our students love. Since then, we've ventured into projects that help our community directly support the library by purchasing books from our wish list and bespoke book fairs. I know that if I've got a book that's hard to locate, they'll save the day. They're knowledgeable, flexible, quick, and great to work with!” - Cary Hanson, Library Media Specialist, Paxton Keeley Elementary, Columbia Public Schools
