Skylark’s consignment program is designed to allow local independent authors (whether self-published or non-traditionally published) space on our shelves. Most of the people who work at Skylark are writers, so we understand that a lot of time and effort goes into writing a book. However, due to our limited shelf space and curation requirements, all books accepted for consignment must meet the following requirements:
1. Submitting authors must reside within 50 miles of Columbia, MO
2. Books must have a formal ISBN number
3. The Title and Author must be printed on the spine of the books
4. The works must be creations of the authors and/or illustrators. If a book contains generative work created by AI, it will not be accepted.
If your work meets these requirements, please click here to request consideration! The main factors that determine whether or not we will carry a book are local interest, production quality, season, and shelf space.
If your book does not meet these requirements, but you would like further clarification, please email us.
If your book(s) is/are accepted, we will stock two copies of your work on our shelves for 6 months. We then pay you for copies sold at the end of that term - or earlier if things go really well.
Please note that we don’t take walk-in inquiries - all inquiries will be directed to this online page.
We reserve the right to say no to any consignment request at our absolute discretion.
If you are a traditionally published author… we work hard to curate our inventory for our community. We also know that we might be unaware of books our customers and community have traditionally published. If that’s you, we would love to know about your book(s) - please click here.
