Local Author Night is BACK!

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re excited to announce that we’re finally planning to reintroduce Skylark’s local author night!

We’ve always done our best to support our amazing local community of writers, but lord knows it’s not been easy during the pandemic. We always wanted the shop to be a place where people could share and discuss their work, and so we’re pleased to welcome back local writers to the Skylark stage to read their work-in-progress in front of a friendly (and smart) crowd.

The first of what will be a regular evening event will take place on Thursday, June 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. Come by and support some of Columbia’s finest writers as they present their work to the world. Here’s who’ll be gracing our stage with their presence and their words:

Aaron Fox came to Columbia to attend Mizzou and never left! While continuing to work in local radio, Fox has also written three children's books of his own along with collaborating with Tigers on the Prowl for a book for charity. He draws inspiration from his wife, two sons and basset hound.

Robert (Bob) Hodgson, a former religion professor, weekly columnist, and Bible translator, lives in Columbia with his wife MaryTim and their green-eyed Maltipoo Irish. He ear his Th.D from the University of Heidelberg in 1976. The Androgyne Papyrus is his first novel.

Brian Katcher is a Stonewall Award winning YA author. His book, ALMOST PERFECT, was #81 on the ALA's list of most challenged books of the last decade. His newest book, MARLEY'S GHOST, will be available in August.

Joseph Marshall is recent to writing. He has completed his first novel and is actively seeking representation in the publishing world. Originally from Ireland, his nationality inspires much of his writing. He lives in Columbia with his wife and three boys.

Dianna Borsi O’Brien calls herself a Columbia native want to be and an accidental historical writer. In 2010, she got an assignment to write about the city’s historic preservation program and fell in love with researching the city’s history.  She founded a website to share Columbia’s history – CoMoHisoricPlaces.com – and it includes information on places, events and people.
